Mementos

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of David Lee McMichael on June 13, 2025 at the age of 80 in Conroe, TX.

Born October 4, 1944 in Louisville, KY at Oxmoor Farm in the home where his parents and family lived.

Preceded in death by his mother Mary Elizabeth McMichael, father, Edgar Thomas McMichael, Sr., brothers Alfred Maines, Edgar Thomas McMichael, Jr., sister Josephine Nall, and two precious pups, Fritz and Maggie.

He is survived by his two loving children, Martin W. McMichael of Spring, TX and Wendy L. Phillips of Bogart, GA, two former wives Nancy L. Levine (Seneca Class of 65) of Griffin, GA and Peggy McMichael of Cumming, GA , his only surviving sibling, Jeannine Barton of Louisville, KY, six grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

David grew up in Louisville, graduated from Seneca High School in 1962 and served six years in the Kentucky National Guard.

He worked as a buyer and manager, for Mill Discount in Louisville, Akron and Atlanta. Later, he taught himself the trade of building custom single family homes with the help of his two brothers Tom McMichael and Al Maines. He was very precise and even designed and drew many of his own plans.  He became a respected home builder in Atlanta, Fort Walton Beach and Birmingham.

He was especially noted for his hands-on precision and attention to detail. Many thought David was a perfectionist but, according to him, he really wasn’t.  In his own words he lived by this motto: "If you're going to spend your time to do something, do it right."

His other passions also included bowling and golf in his earlier years and yard work and casino visits in his later years.

In 2019 he moved from Birmingham, AL to Conroe, TX to be closer to his son.  There he enjoyed perfecting his smaller yard & outdoor spaces.  He never let his health problems get in the way of doing what he loved and that included many solo drives of hundreds of miles to spend time with his daughter and sister in distant states.

A service will be held on October 25, 2025 from 11:00AM-2:00PM at Resthaven Memorial Park and Cemetery, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY. 40218.

He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all his family and friends.
