“Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation.”- Albert Einstein
**Obituary for Helen Demeter Gughis** It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Demeter Gughis, who departed this life on November 13, 2025, in Spring, Texas, at the age of 78. Born on January 17, 1947, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Helen lived a life rich in passion and purpose, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know her. Helen’s academic journey led her to C.W. Post College in Long Island, New York, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1969. Her professional career, spanning over 20 years in logistics and more than 15 years devoted to geriatrics and long-term care, showcased her unwavering commitment to service and care for others. Helen approached her work with dedication and compassion, embodying the qualities of a strong independent woman who believed in making a difference. Throughout her life, Helen radiated kindness, ambition, and a passionate sense of humor. She had a unique ability to light up a room, weaving laughter into the fabric of her daily interactions. Her interests in crochet, animal welfare, and floral artistry were not just hobbies; they were extensions of her generous spirit that she shared with her beloved family and community. Helen is survived by her cherished daughter, Kristina Vlantes, and son-in-law, John Anderson, who will carry forward her legacy of strength and compassion. As we commemorate Helen's life, we invite those who knew her to share in the celebration of her remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Houston Chow Chow Connection at www.hccchou.org, a cause that reflects Helen’s deeply ingrained love for animal welfare. Helen will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will live on in the hearts of her loved ones and those whose lives she touched.
