Sunnye Lou (Smith) Wilson was born in Dallas, Texas, on September 4, 1947. On Sunday, August 30, 2026, Sunney passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord, surrounded by the family who loved her dearly. She was reunited with the love of her life, J.R. Wilson, and her beloved son, Todd Wilson, who preceded her in death.

Sunnye is survived by four of her children, Jay, Scott, Stormy, and Amanda; ten grandchildren; and her eight great-grandchildren, along with countless other family members and loved ones who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

To her family, Sunnye  was so much more than a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she was the heart of the family. To her grandchildren, she was affectionately known as “Memaw,” a name that will forever be synonymous with her love, her strength, and her unmistakable personality.

Sunnye  was a stubborn and outspoken woman who was quick-witted, strong-willed, and never afraid to speak her mind. She had a personality that could fill a room and a way of making sure everyone knew exactly where she stood. Beneath that strong exterior was a woman who loved her family fiercely and treasured the time she spent with them.

Sunnye  enjoyed the simple things in life, especially the things that brought her comfort and joy. She loved Mexican food, cheeseburgers, and cheese enchiladas, and you could almost always find a Diet Coke in her hand. She enjoyed watching college football and cheering on the Texans and Astros. She loved Hallmark movies and especially looked forward to Christmas in July, never wanting to miss an opportunity to indulge in one of her favorite traditions.

Above all, Sunnye  loved her family. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories, stories, laughter, and lessons that will continue to be shared for generations to come. Though her absence will be deeply felt, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is once again with the people she loved and that her memory will live on through every person fortunate enough to have known her.

Sunnye’s final wishes will be honored by her family. At a later date, her ashes will be spread among blooming bluebonnets, surrounded by the beauty she loved so much. Bluebonnets and periwinkles held a special place in her heart, making them a fitting final resting place for a woman who lived life with a strong spirit and an even stronger love for her family.

Sunnye was deeply loved, and she will be missed more than words can express. Her family will carry her with them always in their stories, their traditions, their laughter, and in the many little things that will forever remind them of their beloved Memaw.

Rest peacefully, Memaw. We love you, and we will carry you with us always.
