Jonathan "Johnny" Lee Self

Jonathan Lee Self was born July 14, 1971 in Houston Texas to Robert and Cyndy Self. He peacefully went to be with our Lord on June 12, 2025 at his home with his loved ones by his side.

 

"Johnny" as he was affectionately called lived in Houston for a short period of time before his family moved to Katy. There he attended Katy Elementary, Katy Jr High and Katy High School where he met most of his lifelong friends. He was active in baseball, football, and FFA. After High school he played tournament softball and remained an avid sports fan, with special affection for the Texas Longhorns. He could remember players, specific plays, specific games, and stats better than any sports caster!

 

He worked with his Dad and Pappy as a young man where he learned skills that led him to the careers he had in his life. He was a heavy equipment operator, welder, service writer, construction foreman, inspector, and construction manager. He seemed to always know a little something about anything you asked him to do. The different jobs he did took him all over the country and gave him the opportunity to see many beautiful places. His travels had him far from home often, but he always found a way to make it back for the important things and for that we are grateful.  In his "spare time" he enjoyed barbeque, fishing, and Cajun music. His family and friends will take his ashes to his favorite place where he spent that spare time. Johnny was a big guy at 6'7", but his humor, personality, and unashamed affection for his people made him larger than life. He was truly one of a kind and is already missed beyond measure.

 

He was preceded in death by his amazing Mother, Cyndy, whom we know was at the pearly gates to receive him.

 

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 19 years, Jennifer Self, adoring daughter Bri Ingram(Kyle), grandson Max "My Dude" Ingram and granddaughter Millie on the way. His Father Robert Self, Mother-in-law Bonnie West, his brother Jamie Self(Chrissy) and brother-in-law Gary West(Karie) along with a host of Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, and his beloved JRT Breaux. His chosen pallbearers: Andy Gutierrez, Graham Mitchell, Laurence Marino, Lonnie Adams, Scott Kerr, and Scott Sanders

 

The family will have a celebration of life on July 12, 2025 at 11 AM at The Katy Elks Lodge, 1050 Katy Ft. Bend Road Katy, Texas 77493. A BBQ lunch and reception to directly follow the service.
