She may be small, but a mother’s strength can move mountains for those she loves.
Katie Sue Harding Kriesel, 90, of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on July 8, 2025. Katie grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and attended W.B. Ray High School. The family moved to Houston in 1961 following a brief residence in Austin, Texas. Katie started working in the public school system in 1970 and retired from the Alief Independent School District as a benefits administrator in 2000. Katie attended Lutheran Church and passed on her love for God to her children. She never met a stranger and was always kind and loving to everyone.
Katie was a devoted mother. She loved the beach, arts and crafts, sewing, watching the Astros, and fried shrimp. She especially cherished her family and was the happiest surrounded by family. She enjoyed attending the kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids recitals, sporting events, sailing regattas, and showing their animals at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as well as the county fairs.
Katie is survived by her daughter Debbie Busey, sons David Kriesel and wife Debbie and Donald Kriesel and wife Barbara; grandkids Britni Lehde and husband Chris, Sean Kriesel and wife Kandace, Ashley Kriesel and husband Marcelino Peregrino, Dirk Doud and wife Lindsay, and Denee Doud. Katie had 7 loving, funny and talented great-grandchildren; Addison, Cheyenne, Sebastian, Coleman, Aniston, Dakota and Dirk and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
Katie is preceded in death by her husband Harry Kriesel, parents Hooker and Eunice Harding, and sister Betty Jean and husband Squint Stolleis.
A private family gathering to celebrate Katie will be held at a later date. Katie was in the early stages of Alzheimer's and Dementia. In lieu of flowers you may donate to the Alzheimer's Association so they can find a cure for this terrible disease. Here is the link:
