Ways you can honor Sherry's memory:
Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for life
My mother, Yaya, Sherry Cole Melvin (1952-2024) passed away last Wednesday, November 13, 2024. She will not be missed, because that is the wrong word. She mattered so much, to so many people. Everyone that came into her orbit was loved and cared for. She was a central pillar for everyone that knew her. She taught me all my life to put others before yourself, not by words, but through her actions. She could do anything and make it look like no big deal. Crocheting, singing harmony, juggling, painting, pottery, jewelry. She made exquisite art on a whim and then would just move on to the next hobby. She danced through life with an effortless sense of humor and I never saw her fail at anything. She was a kind and wonderful person, and we will not miss her, because when an absolutely integral part of a machine goes missing, everything grinds to a halt. It's more than broken, we have to start all over and build a new world without her. She is survived by her daughters, Sara and Leslie, her son-in-law Aaron, and grandchildren Byron and Aria. But, I know there are countless more people who loved her dearly and called her Mom. She showed us all how to be good people, now it's our turn to go out in the world and pass it on.
