Recuerdos

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7

It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Dr. Weiwei (Ivy) Kuo, who left us peacefully on July 13, 2026, at the age of 45, surrounded by the family who adored her.

For six courageous years, Ivy fought a fierce battle against cancer. To those who knew her, she was the absolute definition of strength, bravery, and unwavering hope. Even in the final month of her life, when the illness kept her bedridden, her indomitable spirit never wavered. Guided by a determination that inspired everyone around her, she continued to try to exercise every single day, holding onto the hope of rebuilding her strength so that she could walk again. She simply never gave up.

Beyond her incredible strength of spirit, Dr. Kuo was a brilliant scientist driven by a deep desire to help others on a grand scale. She earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Virginia and completed postdoctoral fellowships in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Rather than practicing as a medical doctor treating patients one-on-one, her dream was to conduct the foundational research necessary to develop new medicines that could heal and serve all of mankind.

She lived this noble vision every day through her distinguished career in public health. In 2015, she joined the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the Office of Regulatory Affairs, Office of Regulatory Science Detroit Laboratory, serving as a dedicated chemist until 2023. In May 2023, Dr. Kuo transitioned to the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Office of Pharmaceutical Quality, Office of Biotechnology Products, where she continued her vital mission as a Pharmaceutical Scientist.

Throughout her career, Dr. Kuo was an esteemed scientist and product quality assessor. She made significant contributions to the review and assessment of numerous biological drug submissions across various stages of development, and played a key role in bringing a novel oncology drug to the U.S. market—a legacy of hope for countless patients. She is deeply missed by her FDA colleagues and the many people whose lives she touched through her unwavering commitment to public health. Her family is, and always has been, incredibly proud of her profound dedication, her intellect, and the beautiful impact she made on the world.

Ivy lived life with a vibrant, adventurous heart. She was a passionate baker, an incredible cook, and loved making pottery, finding immense joy in sharing her creations and frequently bringing delicious homemade tarts and fresh bread to her friends, colleagues, and family. Possessing a truly adventurous and active soul, she found her greatest happiness rowing on the water, traveling the world, and hiking through the majestic beauty of nature.

But perhaps Ivy's greatest gift was her warmth. Everywhere she went, she made friends. Her infectious smile, kind heart, and radiant energy meant that to know her was to love her. She left a beautiful, indelible mark on every life she touched.

Despite the hardships of her illness, Ivy’s final days were filled with the things that mattered most to her: love, laughter, and family. She spent those precious days wrapped in the comfort of those who loved her most, watching Wimbledon and the World Cup, sharing jokes, and filling the room with joy.

She is survived by her loving parents, her siblings, and a vast community of family and friends who will carry her beautiful spirit and cherished memory in their hearts forever.
