Ways you can honor Steven's memory:
“Live like no one else so one day you can live like no one else.”
In loving memory of Steve, a man who devoted his life to God above all, embodying faith in every action and word. His love for his family was unmatched, always putting them first and making countless sacrifices to build a future of prosperity and security for them. His unwavering dedication to both faith and family leaves a legacy of love, strength, and inspiration that will endure forever. Steven Bruce Hinchman, 66, of Bradford, PA, passed away surrounded by his family in Tomball, TX on 12/28/2024.
He was born in Bradford in 1958 to Marie Flynn and Gordon Hinchman. Steve was very close to his mother whom he cared for deeply. He graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from Penn State University and received his Masters of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Colorado School of Mines in 1987. He began his career at Marathon Oil Corporation in 1980 as a Reservoir Engineer. He held many management roles at Marathon and in October of 2000 he became the youngest Executive Vice President of Technology and Services and Senior Vice President of Worldwide Production and Exploration. He retired from Marathon in May of 2009. Steve transitioned to Callon Petroleum Company as an executive Vice President and was promoted to Chief Operations Officer before exiting in September 2010. In October 2010, he began his role at HighMount Exploration and Production, LLC as the President and CEO. Steve became the Founder, President and CEO of Scala Energy LLC in 2016. He retired in May of 2020. He was one of the most ethical and moral executives, whose leadership inspired respect and admiration among his employees. His commitment to integrity, fairness, and transparency created a work environment where everyone felt valued and trusted. Working with him was not just a professional experience, but a privilege, as he led by example and always put the well-being of his team first. Before retiring he was the Chair for the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) and Board Chair of the Interfaith Care Partners. His accomplishments of Leadership are as follows; Board Member of Advisory Board for Energy and Mining Engineering at Penn State University, completed the Kellogg Executive Management Program, Chair of API Upstream Committee from 2003 through 2006, received the Penn State C. Drew Stahl Outstanding Achievement Award, Honored as a Penn State Alumni Fellow, Advisory Board member for Houston Energy Charter School and had the honor of being involved in the success of former direct reports; 4 CEOs, 1 COO, and 2 Senior Vice Presidents.
While his career success was remarkable and earned him respect in the professional world, what he truly considered his life's success was the secure and promising future he created for his family. Every moment spent with them was a source of joy and fulfillment, and he valued his relationships with his loved ones above all else, second only to his deep faith and relationship with God. For him, success wasn't measured by accolades or achievements, but by the lasting legacy of love and stability he left for those closest to him.
