Go Bless Someone Today
Carl Wayne Woodward, 59, of Spicewood, Texas, passed away on August 13, 2026, in Hockley, Texas.
Carl was born on March 1, 1967, in Olathe, Kansas, to Patrick and Louise Woodward. He was raised in Overland Park and graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1986. He went on to attend the University of Kansas, where he served as drum major for three years while earning his degree in Civil Engineering. He then completed his Master of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas in 1992.
That same year, Carl met his best friend and the love of his life, Angela Yontz. They married on August 5, 1995, and together raised two amazing sons, Mason (24) and Carson (23) Woodward.
Carl spent his entire career in Houston, Texas, as a hydrologist, devoting himself to the reduction of flooding in Harris County. It was more than a profession to him; it was a calling to protect the homes and families of a community he loved.
Away from his work, Carl's heart belonged to the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and just about anything that kept him under an open sky. As a Boy Scout leader, he counted it an honor to guide many young men toward earning their Eagle Scout award, leaving a lasting mark on the next generation. Carl was an outstanding woodworker, building multiple kitchens and furniture for friends and family. But his most prominent joy came from behind the wheel of his boat, towing countless friends and family across the water in whatever activity they loved most. Those days on the lake, with his family in his wake, were where Carl was happiest.
Carl was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Woodward. He leaves behind his wife, Angie Woodward; their sons, Mason and Carson Woodward; his father, Patrick Woodward and sister, Carol Retting of Overland Park, Kansas; his brother and sister-n-law, Kenn and Patti Woodward of Olathe, Kansas; his bonus parents Victor and Carolyn Grisbee of Cat Spring, TX.
In honor of Carl, spread the love of the Lord, make an impact in your community, and remember that every kid deserves to be loved.
The Celebration of Life service honoring Carl Woodward will be held Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Foundry Church, 8350 Jones Rd, Houston, TX 77065, followed by a reception and visitation. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Carl are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for a life so beautifully lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Foundry Church Youth Missions (www.foundrychurch.org/giving-form) or Zao Church Freeport (www.zao.church/freeport).
