Recuerdos

Donald Pingaro, lovingly known by many as “Big D” or “Papa D,” passed away peacefully on the evening of August 22, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded in spirit by the love of his family and friends, who will carry his memory forward with joy and gratitude.

Born in 1944 in The Bronx, New York, Donald graduated from Fordham University School of Pharmacy. He began his career as a pharmacist but discovered his true calling in pharmaceutical sales. Over the course of nearly four decades, he built a remarkable career as a top-performing sales representative, earning national recognition and awards well into his 70s. His professional drive was matched only by his deeply caring nature and quick wit — often prescribing “a pill” as his good-humored answer to any and every ailment, whether it was a fever, a broken finger, or life’s daily aches.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Donald’s greatest pride and joy were his family, especially his granddaughters, with whom he shared an especially tender bond. Whether spending time with them during simple days at home or cheering on their milestones, he was happiest in his role as grandfather. He was known for his warmth, his steady presence, and his unfailing pride in his children and granddaughters.

In recent years, as retirement brought unexpected challenges and his health declined, Donald continued to face life with strength, humor, and the abiding love of those closest to him.

He is survived by his beloved wife Martha, his children Donnie, Stephanie, and Todd, his stepchildren Lina and Andres, and his cherished grandchildren. He leaves behind extended family, countless colleagues, and friends who will remember his generosity, humor, and ability to make others feel valued.

The family wishes to extend profound gratitude to Martha, Lina, Felipe, and Andres, whose care and devotion in his final years were acts of deep love and sacrifice.

A celebration of life will be held September 27, 2025 at 11a EST at United Methodist Church, 4 Church St, Middlebury, CT 06798, where family and friends will gather to share stories, memories, and laughter in honor of Donald.

Though his absence will be deeply felt, there is comfort in knowing his suffering has ended. In the family’s words, “He has boarded his plane to heaven — no doubt asking the flight attendant where the smoking section is.”

He will be dearly missed.
