"When you speak of her, speak not with tears, for thoughts of her should not be sad. Let memories of the times you shared give you comfort, for her life was rich because of you." — J.K. Rowling.
On December 20, 2025, Stephanie Lynn Johnson—a loving mother, proud grandmother, and the life of every party—passed away in Manvel, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of joy, laughter, and unforgettable recipes. Born on August 29, 1972, in Port Lavaca, Texas, Stephanie graced our lives with her kindness, humor, and talent in the kitchen, but she always insisted that her greatest accomplishment was being a Mom and a “MiMi.”
Stephanie’s formative years were spent in El Campo, Texas, as a Ricebird. Moving to the Taylor TX area for many years where she was juggling the responsibilities of young motherhood, she devoted herself to her children, demonstrating unwavering support and love that would shape their lives. In 1999, seeking to be closer to family, she packed up and moved her crew to Pearland. It was there that she met the love of her life, affectionately known as “Cowboy.” Together, they formed a beautiful partnership filled with love, laughter.
Her career included 12 fulfilling years working in accounting at Parkcrest Builders, but it was her passion for cooking that truly defined her later years. Stephanie’s kindness, generosity, and infectious laughter created an inviting atmosphere, making every meal a memorable event.
If you ever had the pleasure of knowing Stephanie, you likely remember her as “Chef Steph” at Steamboat Bill's in Pearland, where her culinary skills became legendary. From whipping up award-winning gumbo to belting out karaoke classics—especially her signature "Independence Day"—her zest for life was contagious. Traveling to cook-offs, her fiery spirit was often matched only by the spice in her cooking, drawing friends and family together for delicious feasts and jovial sing-alongs.
Stephanie is survived by her loving husband, Morris Cheatwood, her children Arianna (and husband James Cicherski), Ciara (and partner Brandon Kirby), Tucker (and husband Jesse Amason), Zack (and wife Kodi Pittman), and Zoey (and husband Justus Cagle), as well as her cherished grandchildren Haylee, Alyxander, Trevin, and Christian. She rejoices now with her beloved late parents, Dan and Lana Johnson, and will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched with her unwavering loyalty and her knack for making everyone feel special.
Stephanie was more than her roles; she was a vibrant character—a kind, generous, considerate, and loyal friend who could make anyone laugh. Her spirit will continue to echo in the kitchens where her recipes are shared, and in the hearts of all who loved her.
As we remember Stephanie, let us celebrate the laughter and love she brought into our lives, and let her legacy live on in every delicious meal shared and every song sung in her honor. May her spirit continue to shine brightly, a testament to the incredible woman she was.
Rest well, dear Stephanie. Your legacy of love and joy will forever light our way.
