Debra “Debbie” Broeker Ashorn, age 73, of Houston, TX passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026.

Debbie was born on November 11, 1952, to Walton Edmund Broeker & Dolores Gladys (Kokemor) Broeker in Houston, TX. She was known for her warm heart, her love of life, and the joy she found in the simple, meaningful moments.

She was the beloved wife of Glen Ashorn, and we find comfort in knowing they are now reunited, together again on a peaceful beach, free from pain, just as they always loved. Their life together was filled with love, laughter, and countless memories, especially during their time at their beach house in Galveston, a place that brought them both so much happiness.

Debbie was a devoted mother and her love for her family was the center of her world. She had a special way of making people feel at home, whether through her kindness, her laughter, or simply her presence.

She lived a life full of beauty and adventure. Debbie loved to garden and took great pride in creating spaces filled with life and color. She also had a deep love for travel, especially trips to the beach, where she felt most at peace. Some of her happiest moments were spent by the water, feeling the sand beneath her feet and the sun on her face. At home, she cherished the quiet comfort and companionship of her beloved cats.

She is remembered for her gentle spirit, her strength, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Even through her battle with dementia, she carried herself with grace and fought hard to the very end.

She is survived by her daughters, Kristen Vallery and Lindsey Smith; her son-in-law, Kevin Smith; her grandchildren, Taylor Vallery, Brooklyn Vallery, Kolt Smith, and Madison Smith; and her sister-in-law, Gayla Broeker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Ashorn, her brother, Harlan Broeker; her parents, Walton and Dolores, and her in-laws Viola (Mittag) Ashorn and Hilbert Ashorn.

In honoring Debbie and Glen’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Instead, their family will celebrate their lives by spreading their ashes together on a beach, returning them to a place that meant so much to both of them.

Though she is no longer with us, Debbie’s love, warmth, and memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
