Julia Ann Winn
October 3rd, 1939 - September 16th, 2026
October 3rd, 1939 - September 16th, 2026
Julia Ann Winn, born October 3rd, 1939 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on September 16th, 2026 in Houston, Texas, at the age of 86. The youngest of five children and the only girl, Julia grew up surrounded by four protective older brothers who adored her. She carried that same devotion into her own life, becoming a woman known for her loving heart, kindness, generosity, and deep thoughtfulness toward everyone she knew.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents and her four older brothers. She is survived by her daughter Amy Skubi (Anthony Skubi), her son Tommy Winn, her grandchildren Madison McCaleb, Jacob McCaleb (Kaycie McCaleb), Kate Skubi, and AJ Skubi, and her great‑grandchildren Jackson McCaleb and Bruce Skubi Braun, along with many nieces and nephews who cherished her.
Julia valued her family and friends immensely, and she left a lasting mark on all who remain. Her presence was warm and steady, the kind of love that made people feel safe, supported, and deeply cared for.
In 1965, she married H. Thomas Winn, and though their marriage ended 30 years later, the family they built remained one of her greatest joys.
Julia had a beautiful singing voice and grew up singing in church, later performing at weddings and special events throughout her life. One of her most meaningful passions was visiting Texas Children’s Hospital, where she spent years singing to young patients offering comfort, joy, and moments of peace through her music. She also devoted more than two decades to volunteer work at annual golf tournaments in Houston, giving her time with enthusiasm and heart.
Creative to her core, Julia was both a talented writer, a beautiful painter, and a gifted baker. She became known for her cookies, so much so that she opened a cookie shop in Spring, Texas in the 1980s. Her creativity extended far beyond the kitchen; she wrote country western songs and eventually moved to Nashville in the mid‑1990s to pursue her songwriting career full‑time, embracing her dreams with courage and determination.
In 2002, Julia moved to Austin to be close to her daughter and grandchildren. She treasured every moment with them and attended all their sporting events, concerts, and performances — all the way through their college years. In 2014, she returned to Houston, where she spent the remainder of her life with her son Tommy, a time that meant so much to her and brought her great comfort and joy.
God was ever‑present in Julia’s life, and she often said, “God is good.” Her faith carried her through every season, and her family finds peace knowing she is in heaven smiling down on them, proud of the legacy of love she leaves behind.
Julia Winn was truly special. She touched the lives of everyone she met with her kindness, her creativity, her humor, and her unwavering love. Her legacy is woven into the hearts of her family and friends, and the impact of her life will continue to be felt for generations. Her family is profoundly grateful for the love she gave so freely and the memories she leaves behind.
Her family will host a Celebration of Life on December 12th for close friends and family. In lieu of flowers or gifts, Julia supported St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Please consider a donation in her honor.
