Recuerdos

Dane Alan Butterfield, age 37, born March 6, 1988 in Houston, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on April 24, 2025. Dane was a wonderful man who loved his family and wanted to do his best by all.

Though he was born in Houston, he had the opportunity to travel the US and the world with his parents as he grew, before returning to Texas. Sports were important to Dane and in addition to playing American football in the states, he played rugby at the American School in Cobham, England and the Jakarta International School in Indonesia.

Dane was passionate about cooking, especially for his loved ones and never stopped wanting to learn more about the world around him. His intense interest in cuisine led to his Hotel and Restaurant Management Degree and a career as a chef and restaurant owner/manager.

In 2011, he welcomed his first daughter, Zoë Ann Butterfield, who was the light of his whole world. Later in 2020, he married Taylor Butterfield, the love of his life, and in 2022, they welcomed their daughter, Rory Michelle Butterfield, who had him wrapped tightly around her little finger. The other significant member of his family is his walking companion, Lady, aka Hooda, the street dog who rescued Dane and Taylor in January, 2020.

He is survived by his wife, Taylor Nicole Butterfield, his two beautiful daughters, Zoë Ann and Rory Michelle Butterfield, his loving parents, Kimberly Dawn and Brett Alan Butterfield, his sister, Tara Rae Nagel, and brother-in-law, Matthew Nagel; his nephews, Luke and Tyler Nagel; his maternal grandmother, Sallyann Foster and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.

Dane was a realist with a sharp wit and a mischievous spirit that kept everyone on their toes. He had a way of making people laugh, teasing just enough to be unforgettable, but he loved deeply and stood fiercely by the people he cared about.

His loyalty, humor, and strength shaped the lives of everyone lucky enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, love, and memories that will always make us smile — sometimes through tears.

Dane will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered for the way he made life a little brighter, even when he was pretending to be unimpressed.

A Celebration of Dane’s life will be held Thursday, June 19th, 2025, at 10:30 am at the Wortham Pavilion in the Hermann Park Commons, 6001 Fannin Street, Houston, Texas 77030.
