If you ever met Al Wolk, you know just how special he made you feel. He was called Molasses because he was both sweet and slow. He pulled strangers out of their speediness as they realized how good it felt to be with Big Al, seeing how much he cared about them. We lost him on December 7, 2025, at the age of 89. He passed away peacefully having been surrounded by his loving family for weeks.

On November 26, 1936, in Houston, Texas, Al was born big (13.8 lbs) and poor and very smart. He enjoyed school, but at 14, he had to start working full-time to care for his mom and four younger siblings. He eventually started his own company, Big Tex Delivery Service, with his wife, Sylvia Wolk, in 1970. They proudly cared for their employees even more than their customers. They eventually retired in or around 2008 when they handed over the business to Al’s beloved brother, James Wolk. Big Tex remains successful to this day in large part to the deep connections Al made with so many employees and customers.

Al was totally devoted to Sylvia, his wife of 59 years. Indeed, his greatest joy was his family, including his siblings, children and extended family. Al is survived by his wife, Sylvia, his sister Jo Dodd, his sons, Eugene, Greg, Jeff, and Scott, as well as their families. Big Al Molasses leaves a legacy of kindness, devotion to family, and a gentle spirit that will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
