Souvenirs

Our beloved Mary Lynne Bass Fulton (Marilyn) (85 years old), born October 26, 1940, in McKinney, TX, fell asleep surrounded by her loved ones on June 19, 2026. She was preceded by her parents William Marion Bass (Bill) and Ella Bernice Howard Bass (Pie) and survived by her husband James Lloyd Fulton (Jim), her younger sister Carolyn Bass, her son and daughter-in-law Charles Lynn Fulton (Chuck) and Karen Johnson Fulton, and her grandchildren Lea Alexander Fulton and his wife Heather Savonne Kettl Fulton, and Aaran Kristopher Fulton.

Marilyn was always referred to as Carolyn’s big “little” sister as Marilyn was only 4’9” and Carolyn was a whopping 5’3”!  Marilyn spent her childhood in East Texas in McKinney and Grand Saline where she went to grade school. After graduating from High School, she went to North Texas State University for one semester but dropped out when she met and married James Lloyd Fulton (Jim) in April 1960. They had been introduced by Marilyn’s Uncle, Ben Bass, who worked with Jim at Mosher Steel in Dallas. Ten years passed and one perfect kid later (Chuck), Marilyn went back to school and graduated from Texas Tech University with honors in Lubbock and soon after earned two master's degrees at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.

She used her remarkable passion for education by teaching high school English and Latin from the late 1970’s to the early 1990’s. Some of her students kept in touch with her for decades after graduating from high school. Marilyn would often reminisce about her students and her teaching days. Even in her final days, she would ask us to find her former students. She was proud of her contribution to all her “kids’” education.

Marilyn was tiny but mighty. During her retirement, she spent her days traveling the world with Jim. She was happiest spending time with Jim and her family. She loved traveling, she loved relaxing at their condo on Lake Conroe where she was often seen with Jim feeding the birds and the squirrels, she had a love for all animals, particularly the family pets. And she loved the Dallas Cowboys, even though she spent the last 30 years really mad at them. She had the most infectious laugh and was always in the mood for a good laugh.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We will be having a Whataburger and a fudgsicle in her honor.

Knowing Marilyn’s love of animals, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite animal charity. She would really appreciate that.
